Gaming: Google Maps + Fallout 3 = Survival Guide Edition ??!!!

Onigirisan | 18 November, 2008 10:14

I'm sure many of you would have already completed Fallout 3 (second or third playthrough, perhaps?) by now. Some may breezed through the main game, dabbling in a couple of sidequests as distractions, while others went the long route of making sure they find each and every thing the game has to offer.

The Capital Wasteland section of Planet Fallout is an awesome way to discover scenarios and points of interest that you may have missed during your adventure. Many Fallout devotees had contributed to the wasteland map (powered by Google Maps, if you didn't already know) with more information added daily.

Why not contribute things that they might have missed to share your discovery with the rest of the community? I know I will.

Gaming: For The Disabled

zerotau | 13 November, 2008 09:06

Even though there are many of us who are able-bodied, let's not forget the people who have not been able to enjoy life such as we do, and in particular, the story of KitsuneYume on the US PS3 boards has warmed up the hearts of practically any gamer who still has a soul in him (or her). Bedridden with Muscular Dystrophy, a muscular desease which slowly withers your muscles away, his passion for gaming is still burning brightly, and he's still able to catch up with his favorite PS3 titles using a specially designed controller (with his inputs) from GimpGear. To all the other disabled persons out there, this really is hope at work.

Check out his video after the jump, and a link to the PS3 boards here.

Hardware: Hands-on with Intel's 80GB SSD

trojanshark | 10 November, 2008 09:31

After the IDF (Intel Developer Forum), Intel was kind enough to release its ground breaking SSD for testing as part of its Nehalem platform reviews. Now most people today scoff at the idea of using SSD as a hard disk mainly because most SSD are only about 8GB or so, just barely enough to put the OS and the office suite. However, Intel's SSD is a whopping 80GBs which is about the size of a standard hard disk these days. While testing out Nehalem and its various boards we also got to play around with Intel's 80GB SSD and boy was it fun. Considering most 7200 RPM hard disks only get a score of about 4000+ in PCMark05, the SSD blew us out of the water with its score. Check it out below. For a full review of the drive and its Nehalem counterparts, check out the Hot off the Labs and our Nehalem board reviews in the latest issue of HWM.

Videos: Bjork Teaches Television

zerotau | 06 November, 2008 09:00

Not to be contended with televisions, singer/songwriter/model/extraordinare Bjork has made up her mind about televisions; the little streets in them look beautiful! Look at how she takes apart her own CRT (and manages to not get shocked by the bunchful of capacitors in there) and explains on how they work! A must-watch.

Events: IDF stuff from IDF Taiwan 2008

trojanshark | 30 October, 2008 17:33

 IDF Taiwan 2008

The last Intel Developers Forum (IDF) for the year happened in Taiwan with not much new revealed. As usual there was mention of MIDs (although no definite date on when they'll be released), the associated Moorestown PC display, architectural information on the Nehalem (the usual QuickPaths and integrated GPU) and scant news of the Larrabee GPU. We did manage to get shots of some stuff which did catch our eye but if you've seen them at other IDFs this year we wouldn't be surprised. For a more detailed report on our IDF Taiwan trip check it out in the latest issue of HWM.

Launches: Pioneer 9th Gen Plasmas and AV devices

zerotau | 28 October, 2008 12:26

Last week, Pioneer had a regional launch in Singapore for their upcoming second generation Kuro plasma TVs, which also marks the introduction of their 9th generation Plasmas to the market. We didn't manage to publish this on time for the November issue of HWM, so why not tease you with some of the images from the launch itself? Laughing The new Kuro TVs sport even deeper blacks than the previous-gen televisions, and one should certainly see them in action - seeing is believing, its what they say with the Kuro! Although Pioneer did not refresh the smaller 42" market, we saw a new 60" Kuro that boasts some really juicy specs, as below;

Full HD 1920x1080 resolution with 24p capability, Enhanced Optimum Mode - a seperate white balance probe can be purchased for on-the-fly claibration of both room darkness and hue, Five times the darkness as compared to previous Kuro models, a 100000:1 contrast ratio and the capability to blow your mind.

TGS 2008 Booth Babes (picture intensive!)

FatCatLim | 21 October, 2008 14:06

For people who were disappointed with the recent E3 clampdown on skimpily-dressed booth babes, they could find some solace with the boothbabes at the TGS2008. Most of them were dressed pretty classily, though some dared to show off their midriffs. We weren't able to take pics of all of the booth babes due to lack of time (we were too busy playing the latest game demos and watching game trailers) but we still managed to compile an adequate pictorial collection of the booth babes of the show.

Much more pictures after the jump! To view a larger size of the image, right-click and select 'View Image' in Firefox.
